9/26/2017 DMWW FDWTP Operations 1 message McCurnin, Mike <[email protected]> Sat, Sep 23, 2017 at 8:37 AM To: "Janet Gastineau [DNR]" <[email protected]> Cc: Water Production Supervisors <[email protected]>, "Corrigan, Ted" <[email protected]> Janet: Normal operations at FDWTP include waste flows from lime sludge process getting pumped back to the pre-sedimentation basins. Waste flows include filtrate water from dewatering presses and any overflows of water or sludge from sludge holding tank. After months of elevated algae and cyano counts and the beginning of basin maintenance season, we are seeing strong odors and ammonia spikes in these return flows. Earlier this week, we elected to intercept these flows and direct them to our pre-sedimentation sludge pit to be combined with normal pre-sed residuals that are directed to the lagoon west of the Raccoon River. We have in essence reduced return flows and increased waste flow toward the lagoon. We will keep an eye on the lagoon system to ensure no loss of control. Typically not an issue in warm weather. We did this same intercept activity last year to prevent re circulation of cyanotoxins w/in the FDWTP. If there are questions or concerns here, please let us know.
