4/14/2017 Steve called back on 4/13/17 and said he found out the cemetery was a pioneer cemetery and he was having some documents sent to him. I said he should keep these in his projects file for future reference. He asked if pump-outs count for separation distance and I explained they would since the contain manure. He thought so but wanted to make sure. He will make sure his builder knows that the barn has to be built far enough from the well. He said he is going to fill in the old well pit around the well and install a riser pipe. I said he should also ensure the area is sloped away from the well and protected from surface drainage, which is part of his plans. DANIEL WATTERSON
4/14/2017 I called Steve to clarify information in his CDS application. There is a small hog barn north of the site that is owned by his parents and he stated that he has nothing to do with it. He only owns the house at the acreage, his parents own the rest of the property. The existing well on the building site is likely deep but he will try to find more information. The pump is installed at least 100 feet, so he expects it to be similar to his well to the north which is approximately 300 feet deep. I explained if he can't be certain, then he should build at least 200 feet away. Due to the cemetery to the south, he wasn't sure he had room to move the barn farther from the well. We discussed if the cemetery is a pioneer cemetery, then he would not have to meet the separation distance. He will contact the county and see if there is some information on the cemetery.
