1/20/2017	Barb Wood called and asked about the leachate from the Landfill of North Iowa. They have been taking it at the wastewater plant via truck hauling, but have limited the quantity so that they would stay under the SIU threshold. Now the landfill wants to build a pipeline to the City sewer, which will make them a SIU, and Ms. Wood was concerned about the analytical regimen. After some discussion, it was apparent that the key issue was that Ms. Wood thought that the leachate was somehow associated with the Household Hazardous Waste program at LNI. I explained that the leachate was from the non-hazardous waste landfill, and that all hazardous wastes, while collected there, were sent out-of- state for disposal and did not go into the landfill. I went over how the landfill was constructed and how the leachate is generated, again emphasizing that there was no hazardous waste involved. I suggested that EPA has some guidance on this, and I recommended she approach the issue just as she would any other SIU. I also gave her Ben Hucka’s number if she had more questions.	DAVID MILLER
