1/6/2017 McCurnin, Mike 3:12 PM (23 hours ago) to me Janet: An additional item for you to consider if you could. At SWTP, our IVP (integrity verification protocol) includes references to particle counters on the UF units. Certain particle counter events are to shut-off the UF units I believe. Since start-up we have attempted to have functioning particle counters as part of the operation. This has included having a spare unit on-site. We recently had to put the spare in place as we had a failure. The spare then failed and we have turned off UF #3 as a result. Pretty sure we have acted conservatively if not properly. Can you or others comment on the necessity of the particle counters? Amazingly a replacement unit is not readily available. If DNR is indifferent in regard to the particle counters, we might consider running the UF #3 w/out for a few weeks. Thoughts? Michael J. I'm in the field most of tomorrow morning so expect something by afternoon. Coincidentally I was in a meeting today where your permit came up and we are going to work in earnest to get self monitoring requirements assigned for SWTP, which is the only hold up on the permit. Hopefully by the end of the month it will be issued. Gastineau, Janet <[email protected]> 2:21 PM (0 minutes ago) to Mike I had a chance to look at the rule. The rules (43.11(12)"b"(4)) require indirect integrity testing, typically turbidity. I'm not aware that the department approved an alternate parameter, such as a particle counter. If you are using turbidity for continuous indirect integrity monitoring that meets the requirement. And turbidity is what I look at on the MOR for compliance JANET GASTINEAU
