5/2/2016	From: Cindy Turkle [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, May 02, 2016 8:27 AM To: Miller, David [DNR] Cc: 'Dan Aastrup' Subject: Certified operator compliance plan for RIWMA David, On behalf of the Rural Iowa Waste Management Association landfill and Dan Aastrup, I am requesting approval for the RIWMA landfill to periodically not have a certified landfill operator on-site at the working face. Due to recent staff changes, the RIWMA landfill is now down to just two certified operators. A new employee has been hired and is scheduled to take the 25-hr class on August 2nd in Iowa City. (This is the first available.) After taking the class he will be scheduled to take the landfill exam when the next is available. We are hoping this can all be completed by December 1st. Until that time, there may be occasions when one of the current certified staff is off for training, vacation, or sick leave and the other is transporting leachate to the POTW for treatment or running for parts, etc. The RIWMA landfill requests approval to periodically be without a certified operator on-site. The new employee has been instructed in the operation of the equipment, procedures for accepting and disposing of the waste, and what waste to not accept.
