3/30/2016 From: Gastineau, Janet [DNR] Sent: Wednesday, March 30, 2016 7:42 AM To: 'McCurnin, Mike' Subject: RE: DMWW - - McMullen Water Treatment Plant - - High Filter NTU Review the trend and select the highest outside of the time of bulb failure or filter being off-line for that day and this email will serve as support. Glad to hear you are further investigating alarms; 80 minutes seems like a long time to have an instrument display 20 NTU before action was taken. If anything is identified for future resolution or corrected before April 10th, please include a narrative with the MOR. McMullen WTP must be inspected before June 25 this year. I will be in touch to schedule something next quarter. Thanks! From: McCurnin, Mike [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, March 25, 2016 12:09 PM To: Gastineau, Janet [DNR] Cc: Adams, Mike; Woodruff, Carter; Sanford, Paul; Mitchell, Jeff; Jansen, Jeff Subject: DMWW - - McMullen Water Treatment Plant - - High Filter NTU Janet: Last PM we had a turbidimeter bulb failure on Filter #7 at our McMullen Water Treatment plant. • Upon failure of the lamp (near 3 PM yesterday). Instrument displayed 20 NTU (from 0.03 ntu). • The filter remained on-line for 80 minutes. CCOP shut the filter off manually via Control Center. • MAINT personnel arrived to correct the instrument problem and NTU reading dropped to 0.03 NTU and filter was placed back in service. • Nearly 20 hours removed from this event, there has is no impact on finished water NTU reading at the plant. • Intentions at this time are as follows: o Continue to investigate any control or alarm issues that may not have worked properly and then correct. o Get your advice on how best to report this on our MOR. We can report 20 NTU for the peak IFE NTU and offer this email as supporting documentation to serve as a filter profile, or we can review the trend and submit a peak IFE NTU of near 0.03 NTU. We welcome your input here. If you need additional information from DMWW on this matter, please contact me directly (515-208-1938). JANET GASTINEAU
