12/1/2015 Steve Stamps: Our buildings are 22 years old. We are considering renovating or tearing them down. What do we need to do if we tear them down? Dan Olson: If you tear them down, you will want to let us know and you won’t need to submit an MMP any longer. The MMP requirement will only be lifted after the building is “abandoned” and would require significant construction to put it back in service. We have generally accepted removal of the feed and watering systems. If you choose this option, you will, most likely, not be able to put the facility back in service. If you do, it would be evaluated as new construction. If you want to keep the renovation option open, you might want to consider mothballing the site. To mothball the site, you have to remove all of the animals and all of the manure. Then, you would have to continue to submit annual updates but you would not have to submit fees or complete plans. Steve Stamps: A tornado took down ½ of one building. We have 2 years on the insurance to decide if we want to rebuild. We will take the feeders and gates out either way. If we renovate, we will put in new ones. DAN OLSON
