I will try to reach out to Altoona. I’m sure they are not happy that some of their customers received our call. From: Gastineau, Janet [DNR] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, November 02, 2015 9:07 AM To: Corrigan, Ted; McCurnin, Mike Subject: RE: DMWW main break Thanks for the explanation and confirming the bottled water was mentioned with the boil advisory. I talked with Jim Utter a little bit ago and he confirmed that several restaurants did get the calls and as much as Altoona tried to reassure them they were not affected, some kept the boil advisory in place. From: Corrigan, Ted [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, November 02, 2015 8:54 AM To: Gastineau, Janet [DNR]; McCurnin, Mike Subject: RE: DMWW main break Janet, Altoona customers would not have been impacted by the pressure loss and would have had no reason to boil their water. That said, it is possible that some customers in that area received calls as part of our initial reverse 911 call. The reverse 911 system we use is a county wide system and it cannot distinguish between our customers and those of other water supplies. We try to outline the area carefully but there may have been an overlap. Hopefully, once we got the map on our website on Friday it would have helped clear that up. Related to nitrates, levels were in the 7 to 8 mg/L range. We did include in the reverse 911 message that infants under the age of 6 months should use bottled water. This was intended to protect against high nitrates in the boiled water. If you have other questions or comments please feel free to give me a call. Ted JANET GASTINEAU
11/2/2015 From: Gastineau, Janet [DNR] Sent: Monday, November 02, 2015 8:41 AM To: Mike McCurnin; [email protected] Subject: DMWW main break Were portions of Altoona affected by the boil advisory? Someone told me Starbucks (near Target & Walmart) had no potable water Saturday and wouldn’t until Sunday afternoon. It didn’t look like the area affected went to the west side of the hwy 65 bypass. Also, based on the MOR and on line results for nitrate, levels are above 7. Was anything ever issued for bottled water? Wasn’t there discussion in May about this being a possibility? I don’t recall the particulars for sure, but thought I would mention it since I had your attention on this main break. JANET GASTINEAU
