5/20/2015 Rich Hall: At 1:00 this afternoon, Darling notified us that they will not pick up our mortalities tomorrow. We have an incinerator, but we dropped the permit. Alison or Holly came out on a complaint 5 or 6 years ago. She said they didn’t pick anything up with us running it but, since the neighbors complained, she suggested that we not run it. We thought it would be easier to drop it than deal with the complaints so we did. In an emergency situation, can I restart incinerator? Dan Olson: The incineration of regular daily mortalities would fall under an ag exemption. You would still need to meet the applicable emissions standards. I’m a little concerned about the condition of an incinerator that’s been sitting for years but, if the incinerator will work properly, you would not need a permit to incinerate your routine mortalities. If you have a mass casualty incident, that is not exempt. Rich Hall: Ironically, facilities that are picked up by Darling at Des Moines had their service taken away several days ago but just had it restored today. Maybe we will get our service back soon. Dan Olson: Please keep me in the loop. Rich Hall: I will. DAN OLSON
