4/14/2015 Joel Voaklander called to discuss the notion of getting insurance to cover environmental damage if their 5,000 gallon leachate hauling truck overturned say, into a creek. He stated that the premium was in excess of $36,000 per year just for the environmental damage rider, in addition to standard collision and liability coverage all vehicles have. I ran through some scenarios with him (e.g., 5,000 gallons of leachate in a ditch with no release to surface water, 5,000 gallons of leachate running down a tile, and the leachate truck driving into the Little Cedar River) and explained, in a general way, what DNR would require under these circumstances. I was careful to neither recommend nor discourage that he obtain such coverage. DAVID MILLER
