8/28/2014 Perry called to discuss his Method 9 readings on the Main Stack. He said the kiln was started up on 8/5/14. He said the opacities were okay for the first several days. They started climbing around 8/8/14. Around 8/10/14 he started seeing some 6 minute block averages go over 20%. He said the 30 minute average was still okay. On 8/12/14 they took the kiln down. They did maintenance work on the ESP to direct air flow to the less damaged portions of the unit. They also did some cleaning of the scrubber. Some solids were removed and taken to the landfill. The ESP was restarted after a 3 or 4 day shut down. The opacities have been okay since then. The found out that if they reduce tonnage from 175 to 150 tph the unit runs cleaner. Perry wanted to know how to report the exceedances. I told him to do it for each 6 minute block and to report any exceedances of the 20% limit in the same format as he had reported COMs exceedances in the past. He said he would do this. GLENN CARPER
