7/16/2014 I assisted Paul Schwaab, EPA Air Inspector, at the Iowa City Landfill on 7/15/14. We concentrated our efforts on monitoring the landfill cap on the closed areas, as well as the methane recovery wells, using EPA's FLIR camera and their FID monitors. We worked with Dave Elias, Brooke Butler and Jason Ehrick. THe cap of the landfill had very few readings over 20ppm, mostly around 1-ppm. Around a couple methane well heads, we got some higher readings, but where we REALLY found gas was around the 4 manhole covers on the far east side of the landfill, where Dave Elias and I observed the same thing through FO6's FLIR camera ~2 years ago. The FID we were using showed a range of readings in the area of the manhole covers (hooked up the leachate system) with high readings of 12% (whereas 10,000 ppm = 1%). KURT LEVETZOW
