5/9/2014 Erica Billerbeck - DNR Conservation Officer called, asking if i'd call Dan Steepleton or Jessy Witmer back regarding the Iowa City Landfill accepting meth lab type wastes and storing in their typical HHM containment system. I called and spoke to both Jessy and Dan. Long story short, they explained that meth lab wastes can't be stored unless the area complies with several different stipulations of the Code of Iowa 455B.462 (6' high fence with concertina wire, locked with a lock that only certain people have access to etc). Apparently the meth lab waste can't be co-mingled or co-stored with the everyday HHM types of materials. They wondered if we knew how the landfill disposes of their HHM (i didn't know exactly but assumed they have records to track where it went). Dan said he was going to go to the landfill and visit with them about this. KURT LEVETZOW
