Please note that DNR reserves the right to request additional sampling to determine the extent of soil and/or ground-water contamination, if the results of this sampling effort suggest that there has been a material spill associated with the incident. We also reserve the right to request that Northwood Ag Products conduct sampling of nearby wells at some point in the future. DAVID MILLER Environmental Specialist Senior *************************************** From: Cleary, Dave [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, April 16, 2014 7:22 AM To: Miller, David [DNR] Subject: Northwood Soil Sampling David, attached is our proposed scope for shallow soil sampling at Northwood Ag B.1 Soil Borings A total of six soil borings will be advanced around the concrete pad to a maximum depth of approximately three feet below grade surface (bgs). The borings will be advanced using a hand auger in unconsolidated material. Equipment will be cleaned using an Alconox® wash prior to beginning the project, before beginning each boring, and between collection of each sample. Soil samples will be collected continuously to document lithology, color, and relative moisture content. In addition, the samples will be field screened using a photo-ionization detector (PID) to detect the presence of VOCs. B.2 Soil Sampling Program Terracon’s soil sampling program will consist of the following: Collection of one soil sample from each soil boring from 0.5 to 1 foot. A second soil sample will be collected from 2.5 to 3 feet from each boring and placed in laboratory containers. The shallow soil sample from each boring will initially be analyzed. The deeper soil sample will be submitted and placed on hold at the laboratory. The soil samples will be collected and placed in laboratory prepared containers, labeled, and placed on ice in a cooler which will be secured with a custody seal. The samples and completed chain-of-custody forms will be transported to the selected analytical laboratory for standard turnaround. B.3 Laboratory Analytical Program The soil samples collected from the soil borings will be analyzed as show below: Analysis Sample Type No. of Samples Laboratory Method Organophosphorous Pesticides Soil 6 / 12 EPA Method 8141 Acid Extractable Herbicides Soil 6 / 12 EPA Method 8151 Terracon will transmit the data from the six shallow soil samples to the client upon receipt from the laboratory. If the data indicates exceedances of regulatory standards, we will analyze the deeper soil samples upon approval from the client.
