4/14/2014 1400 hrs: I returned a call to Mr. Reicks, of HRS Surveying, who dug the test pits for this site. He explained that he had been contacted by Ms. Beth Rachut, of Three Rivers Ag Consulting. I stated that the test pit logs HRS submitted for this site terminated at a depth of 12-feet. I explained that this was insufficient to demonstrate at least 5-feet of separation between the bottom of the manure pit structure and bedrock. Mr. Reicks stated that they have done many of these test pits and he figures that for an 8-foot deep pit, with the slats approximatley 2-feet above ground level, 12-feet of excavation should show the necessary 5-feet of separation. I explained that, while I agreed with his reasoning, the Construction Design Statement identified 10-foot deep pits; not the typical 8-foot finisher pits. Mr. Reicks stated that no one had informed him the pits would be 10-feet deep. I explained what additional detail, and further excavation would be required for the test pits. I also stated that, on the off-hand chance the CDS had incorrect pit depths, a corrected CDS would simply have to be submitted to both myself and the county. Mr. Reicks stated that Mr. Moore was supposed to be back by the end of the week and they would consult regarding this matter. I asked Mr. Reicks to keep me informed of their decision, and he stated he would do so. TRENT LAMBERT
