3/20/2014 Abe Sandquist: Question for you or Alison. Spreading the solids from the SSB at Harlan Dairy. The grates in the SSB get packed tight with manure. Solids are hard to handle when they aren’t completely dried. There is a flat spot north of the SSB with earthen berm to divert clean water. I would like to push the berm back and use the area to stack solids that are removed from the SSB. Any leachate would run back into the SSB. Dan Olson: I don’t have a problem with the concept but you need the blessing of the construction permitting folks. I suggest that you give Paul Petitti a call. You may need to pave the area or provide a compacted clay liner and protect it from mechanical damage. Abe Sandquist: Could pile on concrete silage pile but they would put up silage before the manure is applied in the fall. DAN OLSON
