2/14/2014 Wayne Krug called and said that there was an article in the Fort Dodge newspaper this morning regarding the Quarry Services, Inc. fine for the unpermitted gypsum mine discharge (for which Mr. Krug has recently settled and paid $10,000). Mr. Krug stated the article (which I have not seen) insinuates that Quarry Services, Inc. was held solely accountable for this violation and the NCIRSWA Landfill, who owned the mine, was not penalized. Mr. Krug asked if this was true, because he understood that both Quarry Services and the Landfill would be penalized. I advised Mr. Krug that the newspaper had not contacted me, but the NCIRSWA Landfill has been referred to the Iowa Attorney General for numerous violations, including the unpermitted mine discharge, and that litigation was ongoing. I stated that I do not know what the ultimate penalty for the NCIRSWA Landfill will be, but this particular violation was definitely included in the complaint to the Attorney General, and the entire matter would be settled in due course.
