From: Gastineau, Janet [DNR] Sent: Wednesday, November 20, 2013 1:47 PM To: Petersen, Ted [DNR] Subject: vehicle in DMWW Crystal Lake Mike McCurnin called to let me know about the police chase that ended when the driver went into Crystal Lake at the McMullen WTP. I guess it’s all over the news, but this was the first I heard about it. Should this be recorded as a spill and if so would we require DMWW to submit a 30-day report? The woman died and there is nothing (fuel or otherwise) visible on the surface of the lake, but he said you can smell fuel when you get to within 6-8 feet of the shore. The lake was not being used and is not planned to be used for source water. The car went in the opposite corner from the intake. They will be putting out booms/absorbents as a precaution. We talked about how this happened from a security standpoint and the gate was open on the east side of the property because the sludge hauling operation. Mike had no information on the driver/RP.
