10/28/2013 On 10/25/2013 at ~0715 Mr. Mason contacted the Field Office for information regarding animal feeding operations. Mr. Mason explained that he lived in Des Moines County or New London area. Mr. Mason indicated that there was a new hog confinement operation being constructed near his property. According to Mr. Mason, the gentlemen building the facility was Paul Vontersch (Sp-?) from Wayland IA. The property where the facility was being built was owned by Gabeline. Mr. Mason indicated that Mr. Vontersch had sent him an e-mail regarding the operation. The e-mail reportedly listed the capacity of the facility at 2580 head. Mr. Mason was not sure what type of animals (nursery or finishers) it was going to be. We discussed MMP's for facilities over 500 Animal units (AU), Construction Design Statements, and when a construction permit was required (Over 1000 AU). Mr. Mason was instructed where to look on the DNR website for more information such as separation distance tables and the AFO online database.
