7/10/2013 Kerri Prescott called from Webster County Public Health and stated that complainant Robert Pingle had called the Fort Dodge HazMat team regarding leachate odors in the Coleman area sewers, and the HazMat team had taken H2S, O2 and CO readings in several homes and in the sewers. Ms. Prescott reported to me that no H2S was detected (the detection limit is not clear to me at this point) and that O2 levels remained constant in all areas investigated, suggesting to the HazMat team that there was no significant displacement of atmospheric gasses by potentially toxic gasses. Ms. Prescott indicated that they intend to conduct health assessments on individuals in the affected area to determine if there have been any obvious health impacts. NCIRSWA manager Cindy Turkle also called me at aboput this same time with the same information about the HazMat air testing, but added that the primary complainant, Robert Pingle, is apparently a relative of the previous landfill Director, who was dismissed for cause.
