As long as you are maintaining the required 1 foot maximum leachate head, you may manage the leachate system as you see fit . Regards, DAVID MILLER Environmental Specialist ************************************************* From: McDonald, Debra [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, June 28, 2013 8:46 AM To: Miller, David [DNR] Cc: Lorenson, Lou Subject: Central Disposal - Leachate Management Update Importance: High Good Morning David – Since my May 3 email to you requesting permission to shut off leachate pumps at Central, we have been diligently working to manage leachate at Central Disposal, despite the challenging weather with unprecedented excessive rain in May and June. We have hauled almost 300,000 gallons to the Mason City Treatment Plant and almost 2,000,000 gallons to the City of Lake Mills Treatment Plant, utilizing these plants when they were available. We currently have bought P1 and P2 pumps on-line and are maintaining required head levels. P3 and P4 pumps have run intermittently during this time, but have presented some mechanical/electrical issues (possibly due to recent storms) this week, which we are in the process of addressing. It is not likely that P3 and P4 will be able to be brought completely on-line yet this month (June), as parts are acquired. With July 4 holiday week approaching, service and parts may also be delayed a bit. As such we are asking for continued flexibility at P3 and P4 pumps through July as we resolve mechanical issues. Please let us know if you see any issues or have any questions. We appreciate you working with us during this difficult spring. Debra McDonald, P.E. WI-MN Market Area Engineer DAVID MILLER
