I’ve looked into it, and the only thing you have to do is include a phrase in the text of the public notice “This report contains important information about your drinking water. Have someone translate it for you, or speak with someone who understands it.” That phrase is included in multiple languages in the attached documents. I’m also attaching a Tier 1 PN that has a full translation into Spanish if you would like. That is the only time I can recall such efforts and it was based on a large user employing a number of Spanish-speaking consumers. I will defer to the Water Supply Operations staff on this one as there may be other precedence set outside of my region. It sounds like a good idea to me but there may be some demographic standards they refer to in order to make that decision. We certainly are endeavoring to keep finished product below the 10 mg/L standard, but we are having some proactive conversations in regard to “what if” we do exceed the standard. We are fully aware that a PN will be required, but one of the questions that came up involved any potential need or requirement to have such a PN available in multiple languages. This is where I need your assistance. Would a PN for a nitrate violation at Des Moines Water Works need to be prepared in multiple language formats? JANET GASTINEAU
