4/29/2013 A citizen called and stated that Hawkeye Pride was pumping wastewater to a field and that there was a possibility of discharge to a water of the state. A call was made to the facility manager to determine if the facility was out of compliance with the NPDES Permit. I spoke with Mr. Ipting Complex Manager concerning the facility status. Mr. Ipting stated that they had discovered that a line to there WW irrigation system had broken during the winter. They had dug up the line and repaired the break in preparation for use this spring. Mr. Ipting stated that they had pumped water through the line with it disconnected from the center pivot. This was done to flush small rocks or other debris from the line. This procedure will be done one more time on 4/30. Flushing the line protects the irrigation equipment from damage. Mr. Ipting stated that he used final effluent which would be land applied and that the normal precautions were taken to ensure no discharge from the site to a water of the state. JEFF VANSTEENBURG
