4/11/2012 From: Gastineau, Janet [DNR] Sent: Tuesday, April 10, 2012 10:49 AM To: 'Steve Armstrong' Subject: RE: animal control At Facility I recommend contacting the local wildlife biologist that covers Tama County—Tim Thompson at 319-330-7013—he should be able to make some suggestions, line you up with trappers, discuss regulations, etc. From: Steve Armstrong [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, April 10, 2012 10:32 AM To: Gastineau, Janet [DNR] Cc: Jeff Muchow Subject: animal control At Facility Janet, As we are cleaning up our facility here in Tama we are finding that some raccoons also like it here and we just don't think it will work out between us. What I would like to learn is how the DNR would like to see us get rid of our unwanted tenants. I would prefer to allow someone to live trap them and set them free on a river bank a few miles from here. Is this allowable and would we or the trapper need a special permit/permission? If trapping does not work can I treat them like any other pest and have them exterminated? Also as we mow and maintain our lagoons this spring (and on going this summer and fall) if we come across other fur bearing animals that think they can set up residency, what are are legal options to protect our lagoons from burrowing and causing damage? It has been a while since I have worked in Iowa so i thought it prudent to check Iowa regulations to make sure we followed expected parameters, rules, and regulations. I appreciate your help in this matter, JANET GASTINEAU
