2/29/2012 From: Atkinson, Tom [DNR] Sent: Wednesday, February 29, 2012 8:59 AM To: Gastineau, Janet [DNR] Subject: Iowa Premium Beef Visit Here’s a quick note to let you know what I was told about the water supply at this facility. They have pushed the production start-up date back until sometime around the first of next year, possibly late December, but more likely into January 2013. They haven’t made much progress on the water supply issue. The pump needs a new starter which will be pretty pricey so they are working through the timing of obtaining the needed equipment before start-up. They are also working to get with chemical suppliers, likely looking at bulk chlorine for disinfection, to determine what equipment is necessary. The old basket filtration system will either be refurbished or more likely replaced with a different filtration system. They intend for these activities to take place in the July-August 2012 time frame. As a back-up option, they have a supply from the city of Tama, but the city needs ample notification to prepare. The industry is under the impression that the city could meet their water supply needs during start-up if that were necessary. Simply stated, they still have a lot of work to do before they are ready for a water supply permit. If you have any questions about the visit, let me know. JANET GASTINEAU
