2/7/2012 On 02/07/2012 at ~1240 Mr. Webb called back. Mr. Webb indicated that the plant manager wanted to know if they had to report the main break to the Department. Mr. Webb provided the following information: 1. The break was discovered when someone noticed water on the ground. 2. The line where the break occurrs serves a couple small buildings. 3. The few people in theses buildings have been notified of the break and were provided bottle water. 4. Maintenance crews have isolated the line from the system. 5. The system was not de-pressurized. 6. The repairs were in progress at the time of the call. 7. Public notice had been issued regarding the break and that chlorine levels in the system would be elevated as part of the disinfection process. As mentioned below, Mr. Webb indicated that they would probably go with continuous chlorination. This method of disinfection according to Mr. Webb would impact the entire system. In summary Mr. Webb was informed that based on what he described I didn't believe they would need to notify the department. However, it was suggested that they document the repairs. As the call concluded, Mr. Webb was informed that I would discuss the matter with Paul, and if they were to report the break I would let him know. MARK HEIDERSCHEIT
2/7/2012 On 02/07/2012 at Mr. Webb called about the standards for disinfecting a water main. Mr. Webb was informed that according to the AWWA Standard C651 Section 5 there were three methods of chlorination. They were the tablet, continuous feed, and slug. We discussed the minimum chlorine dose and exposure limit for each. In addition to the disinfection methods, we discussed the bacterial sampling and collecting two consecutive sets of samples at least 24 hours a part. Based on the information provided, Mr. Webb indicated that they may use the continuous feed method. MARK HEIDERSCHEIT
