12/13/2011 From: McCurnin, Mike [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, December 13, 2011 10:55 AM To: Gastineau, Janet [DNR] Cc: Mitchell, Jeff; Graham, David Subject: RE: Saylorville MOR Janet: Just a few clarifications for the file in regard to 2011 Nov MORs: 1. Fluoride feed at SWTP has been problematic since commissioning in April of 2011: a. Issues have included pump, pump priming, gear box, and flow meter problems b. Fluoride levels in the finished water have been low since April with brief debuts of fluoride feed c. We think we have this under control now as of about November 22, 2011 d. The urgency of getting this functional might appear to be lacking, but we know the SWTP waters are blending with Fleur waters in the Ankeny system e. Barring the unforeseen here, the fluoride feed and concentration in finished water should be more stable from here on out 2. In November our Laboratory Staff had to deal with a failed PC that operates in conjunction with our Ion Chromatograph. The IC is used for the NO3 and Fluoride analysis on raw and finished waters. This PC failure led to an inability to extract certain data by the time the MOR were to be submitted. a. Submitted MOR for 22 NOV 2011 shows: i. No value for “finished NO3” ii. No value for “finished fluoride” b. We have since been able to extract data for both parameters on this date: i. SWTP 1. Fin NO3: <0.1 mg/L 2. Fin Fluoride: 0.69 mg/L ii. Maffitt/McMullen 1. Fin NO3: <0.1 mg/L 2. Fin Fluoride: 0.64 mg/L iii. Fleur 1. Fin NO3: <0.1 mg/L 2. Fin Fluoride: 0.65 mg/L c. I can submit updated MOR if necessary. Please call if there are any questions here. Looks like it was actually Saylorville that had a problem recovering data for fluoride. I asked Jeff to include a statement in the comments section of the MOR about what/why there is no information on the report that I can find. Can you please just send an email to me or have Jeff do this? Thanks. JANET GASTINEAU
