11/15/2011 Steve is with Seneca and had questions regarding disposal of petroleum contaminated pea gravel from an underground tank. Apparently the gravel was put into the tank to fill it, but fuel remained in the tank. The soil around it the tank has been taken to the IC Landfill, (presumably as PCS). Steve asked Jon Thomas (at IC Landfill) about the pea gravel and Jon said that we would have to approve it and he wanted to make sure to comply with subtitle D. After consulting Matt McDonald/Matt Phoenix/Susan Johnson (IDNR Central Office SW Staff) and Kurt Levetzow (FO6) it was determined that the gravel could be landfarmed and then disposed of as long as there were not other hazardous chemicals and it passed the paint filter test. I relayed this info to Steve and will inform Jon Thomas tomorrow. Steve called back (11/15 - 3:40 pm) and informed me, that after looking over the material, it is mostly soil with some gravel in it. We discussed utilizing the same process (PCS disposal) that they have been with the exterior soil. Steve will send some picts of the material. BRIAN LEE
