1/20/2011 Jeff had a question about observation of drips from a pump seal. He wanted to know that if monitoring of a dripping seal was conducted within 5 days, and if the test result was <10,000 ppm, did repairs have to be initiated within 5 days and be complete within 15 days (5/15), or could it be addressed by adding the item to the routine maintenance schedule. I told him that according to Subpart VV, it would not be defined as a leak and would not have to be repaired according to the 5/15 timeframe. However, I also told him that repair of any equipment ASAP was always better than letting it go longer. He agreed, but wanted to know for record keeping purposes. GLENN CARPER
