10/19/2010	Steve Anderson, Hancock County Sanitarian, called on 10/18/10 with a question about siting a new private well. He was dealing with a hog facility in Section 11, Concord Township, Hancock County. He stated that the facility was owned by Jeff Short. The well for the facility has failed and needs to be replaced. The problem is that there is not enough room on the site to meet all of the separation distances. He wanted to know what to do. I advised him that Short should submit a written request to the Board of Health for a variance from the separation distances. I advised Steve that any site chosen for the well should be as far as possible from the manure storage tank and buildings. If the site chosen is farther away than the existing well, then it is reasonable to assume that it will be better protected than the old well. He thanked me for my input.	GLENN CARPER
