8/10/2010 On 08/10/2010 at ~1505 Galen Yoder visited the office to discuss the animal units for their facility. I drew a diagram of the of the facility. Mr. Galen Yoder confirmed that: 1. The new building to the west was the 1000 head grower/finisher. 2. The two buildings to the north of the primary cell were the nursery barn, and grower/finisher barn 3. The building to the NE of the two confinement buildings was the farrowing building. Mr. Yoder was informed that per the previous inspections the nursery and grower buildings were 250 each; based on those numbers and combined with the new bulding they were over 500 animal units. Therefore, they would require an MMP. Mr. Yoder indicated that there were no growers in the finishing building; and that they were going to remodel it so that it would house nursery pigs. Once it was remodeled it would house 500-600 nurserry pigs. Mr. Yoder indicated that the farrowing building was old and it was not likely it would be filled. Mr. Yoder was informed that as long as it was possible to put hogs in the building it would need to be counted. We discussed removing the feeders and cutting the manure discharge pipe. Mr. Yoder indicated that they could remove the feeders and put them up. However, he did not like the idea about cutting or digging up the manure pipe. Mr. Yoder was reminded that if it did not meet the definition of an abandoned facility it would need to be counted. Mr. Yoder mentioned that he would like to elimante the earthen basins. We discussed his options. He indicated that he was considering a harvestor. It was suggested that he may want to consider a formed concrete structure. As for the basins, once he cut the manure discharge pipes and cleaned them out; he could maintain them as solid settling basins for the open lot. As the visit concluded, Mr. Yoder was shown the letter that went out today, 08/10/2010. He was instructed to provide the answers to the questions and details as to what they were planning to do with the buildings as he described. MARK HEIDERSCHEIT
