3/5/2010 On 03/05/2010 at ~1346 Mr. Wiegand & Mr. Walters called to discuss well recovery after a flood. Mr. Wiegand explained that they have 5 production wells and that three of them were connected to the potable system. One well was their in particular was a primary concern. They wanted to know what would be required during a flood to bring the well back on line. They were asked if it was possible to isolate the well from the rest of the system. They thought it could be. The following was discussed: 1. Isolating wells from the system prior to a flood. 2. Flushing wells - For wells that were submerged, it was suggested that they be flushed prior to disinfection and take samples to determine the impact of surface water material (i.e. algae). 3. Shock chlorination of the wells 4. Flushing 5. Collecting Samples 6. Notifying or keeping the department informed of their progress. I called Mr. Wiegand back later with additional suggestions such sealing the well prior to the flood to prevent infiltraton and sandbagging around the transformers or generators. MARK HEIDERSCHEIT
