1/28/2025 Email: Ken was able to get a letter from the county that appears to allow the distance to the public area to be waved, and there is some potential he may install a 1500 head confinement and close the feedlots. In the attached map, and the link below I have put a polygon around the potential area of a confinement building. The question I have is on the alluvial soils end. A few of the pixels for the alluvial soils area are up on that hillside in the potential area of the confinement. I personally think it’s to high on the landscape for alluvial soils. When I put a pin in those pixeled areas it says no to alluvial soils as you can see in the siting information. I am checking to see if we are clear on the alluvial soil standpoint for the area in the polygon, as well as any other siting issues in this area My response: I think your best bet would be to screen the project using the DNR floodplain database, below. You can screen the project and then, if needed, submit an application. Regarding separation distances, attached is a document for required distances. Also, if this will be a true confinement it will need a permit and a MMP submitted. His response: Ken was talking about slatted barn with manure storage under feet. If I am reading the separation distances that would be confinement buildings and covered formed manure storage structures and he was looking at 1500 head so the 1875’ separation distance to house appears to be an issue. Is that another case where that homeowner can allow an exemption or does that separation distance dead end a project. My response: The home owner (not renter) can sign a waiver and file it with the county. ALISON MANZ
