2/23/2024	Lori Kreech from the Ottumwa landfill called and said they were going to receive waste from a house fire and wanted to know how they should deal with potential asbestos which the contractor said may be in it. She said the landfill normally buries asbestos waste but that her supervisor indicated that if it is non-friable asbestos it could be placed in the working face, which is documented in 567IAC109. After talking with Tom Wuehr and Levi Fischer from the asbestos program I relayed to Lori that because this is waste from a single family dwelling we would not regulate its disposal as it relates to asbestos and it was therefore the landfills decision as to where to place it within the landfill.
