9/6/2023 Dane called to inform DNR the company has decided to close this site down, effective March 2024. He said after reviewing cost proposals for updating and repairing the site, the management decided it was not cost effective to continue operation. He said the manure is planned to be removed from the bunker by November 2024, with the last birds removed by next March. During the winter months, a local farmer removes the manure directly from the barns for land application nearby. I said they would need to completely remove any remaining manure within 6 months of closing. At this point he wasn't sure if they would keep the site or sell. I explained once the site is permanently closed for one year, it may be required to submit a new construction permit application and receive approval to resume operation. I said the mothball rule could only apply if they kept some animals onsite but below MMP size requirements. He said the ownership usually wants to keep all sites permits active in case the market changes so he will present them with this information and let us know if anything changes. DANIEL WATTERSON
