8/15/2023 On August 4, 2023 we received the annual update for the site. It still shows the owner as Paul Groenenoom and the annual compliance fee was paid. On August 15, 2023 I talked to Allen Groenenboom to ask about site ownership and future plans for the site. Allen said the site is part of his father's (Paul Groenenboom) estate and no change in ownership has taken place. There are about 1,500 swine in the buildings which should be gone by the end of the year. Allen said it was yet undertimed if the site will continue to be in operation or closed. I told Allen to let me know when the estate is settled, the ownership determined, and the status of the site as to whether it will continue to be operated or closed. 7/31/2023 On Monday, July 31, 2023 I talked to Allen Groenenboom about the annual update for the MMP. Allen informed me his dad, Paul Groenenboom recently passed away and he found correspondence from DNR FO5 that the MMP annual update was due 8/1/2023. I sent Allen the following on an email: Hi Allen, For your father's site, Groenenboom Farms (Facility ID 59025), the Manure Management Plan (MMP) annual update is due August 1, 2023. You contacted me to inform the DNR your Father, Paul Groenenboom, recently passed away and you just found correspondence from the Iowa DNR Field Office 5 about the annual update for the MMP being due August 1, 2023. The Annual update is a one page form and includes an annual compliance fee based on the reported capacity of the site. The most recent new-original P-Index MMP received August 3, 2022 showed 1,000 head of nursery swine and 1,500 head of grow-to-finish swine. The annual compliance fee is based on the animal units (AU) of the operation Nursery swine - 0.1 AU per head x 1,000 head = 100 AU Finishing swine - 0.4 AU per head x 1,500 head = 600 AU Total Animal Units = 700 The compliance fee is $0.15 per AU - $0.15 x 700 = $105.00 I am attaching a MMP Annual Update form which you need to fill out and submit with the compliance fee to this office. You said Kapil Arora with Iowa State Ag Extension helped your father Paul with his Manure Management Plans in the past. Kapil can provide assistance if needed.
