5/8/2023 4/27/2023 1058: Responded to an email from Yusef Setiawan of MidAmerican Energy Louisa Generating Station PWS. He wanted to know if it was okay for new lab technicians to do the monitoring for the PWS. I mentioned to him that it was fine provided that he, as certified operator, is signing off on the MORs for the facility and I recommended that he add their information to the bacterial sampling plan for the facility. The email read as follows: Yusuf, I am going to attempt to answer your question. You were asking if the new lab techs can collect samples and do the water analysis even if they do not yet have the WD-1 certification. My answer would be that yes, they are but that is provided that you, being fully certified, are signing the MORs. In my answer I am assuming that they are doing the basic water monitoring via field tests (e.g. Hach test kit, benchtop monitoring equipment) and not doing anything that would be considered analytical testing in a certified lab. I am hoping that answers your question on that. The short answer would be yes, but a fully certified operator would need to be signing off on the data in the MORs. Thank you, Jon JON RYK
