1/17/2023 On Tuesday, January 17, 2023 I forwarded the MOR and word document explaining the plant shut down and power surge event to Anthony Bigger, Bryan Bunton and Janet Gastineau (wastewater staff at FO5). BILL GIBBONS
1/17/2023 On Friday, January 13, 2023 I received a call from Erin Harwick. He called to tell me they forgot to take Effluent samples after final clarifiers. The wastewater plant was shut down during the sub-zero temperatures on December 23rd, 24th and the 25th. When they tried to restart they experienced a power surge that took out the motors at two lift station pumps and three VFD Pumps. They received the new pumps and installed them starting December 30th. They did not collect samples on December 23rd, 24th, 25th, 27th, 28th and 29th. (due to the shut down and power surge - pump failures). Erin submitted a copy of the December MOR and word document explaining the shut down and power surge event. BILL GIBBONS
12/30/2022 On Thursday, December 29, 2022 at 3:01 PM I received a call from Erin Harwick and Bud Ludwig with Iowa Premium, LLC in Tama.  They called to explain an ongoing situation with the wastewater treatment system. Erin said they shut down the production plant and much of the wastewater treatment system last week when the temperatures dropped below zero *F.  Because of the cold temperatures the UV system was not in operation and activated sludge was sent to the off-spec storage lagoon for future treatment (next spring).  When they started bringing the wastewater treatment system back on-line they experienced a power surge.  The power surge took out two lift station pumps, three VFD pumps for the activated sludge, and the UV system.  This has kept the system off-line and no discharge has been taking place during this theme. Erin said new pumps for the lift stations, VFD pumps for the activated sludge plant, and necessary components to repair the UV system will arrive Friday, December 30, 2022 and the wastewater treatment system should be back up and running sometime on Friday.  He will submit a written report detailing the situation and steps to get back on-line.
