11/14/2022	Tim Brooks contacted the IDNR Webmaster with questions about chicken litter that was being piled by his acreage located at 2363 Buchanan Ave, Goldfield. He knew the litter was coming from Iowa Cage Free located northwest of Goldfield. He told me that they are piling the litter 300-400 feet from the edge of his acreage out in the field south of him. I asked how far from the edge of the acreage his house was and he said approximately 300-400 feet. I told him the distance to a residence for litter from a 200A facility like Iowa Cage Free is 500 feet, so they are likely legal where they are piling. I reviewed other separation distances with him and he agreed that they are likely legal but it sure does stink. He said they could have gone to the south end of the field and been >1/4 mile from him. I told him to call if he had any other concerns. He wasn't happy with the answer but understood that is the law and thanked me for the information.	DAN BRATRUD
