1/24/2022 spoke with Jamie Carter (515/281-6358) IDALS as I wanted to know how the dead animals were disposed of. Jamie stated that BH Co. Sheriff deputies were onsite during their investigation, Dewall stated the insurance agent was holding up disposal, but the dead animals were going to BH Co. landfill for disposal. Jamie did not have verification the animals had gone to the landfill. BRIAN JERGENSON
1/10/2022 Dep. Hardin says she responded to dead animal complaint. 800 dead nursery pigs in barn due to alleged neglect. She had questions re: disposal. Dewall claims insurance co. is holding up disposal. I talked to Kyle Blohm (319/345-2839), Farm Bureau, who said they denied the claim and are not holding it up. I talked to Jamie Carter (515/281-6358), IDALS, who said they have a vet visiting the site today to investigate. She noted that IDALS regulates timeliness of disposal DNR regulates method. I agreed and said as long as the acceptable methods are followed it's unlikely we need to be onsite right now. I also spoke with Hudson Vet Brian Hargen who stated he was out to collect samples to submit to IA State and the pigs were dead on 12/30/21. I intend to follow up with IDALS in a day or two to see how their investigation went. BRIAN JERGENSON
