10/4/2021 Jan called to talk about Ralston Creek in Iowa City, she said there was a sheen on the water and it was discolored. Doing some research on the area it is near a contaminated site. (Iowa City Former Manufactured Gas Plant located at 505 Burlington St.) The site is an EPA superfund site. Aaron Pickens investigated a complaint at the site in 2010 and Ben from the office had a complaint in 2019, The site has been investigated by the DNR and is a site that has an ongoing EPA compliance plan in place to monitor the area. The latest report done for the EPA was in February of 2020. Iowa is in a drought at this point and water levels in the creek are very low. This could be causing the smell and sheen issues.
