5/2/2022 4/29/2022 - email from Mark Hentges: I’m writing this to inform you of our chip situation in Marshall County. We were originally planning to haul all remaining chips to our landfill here but things have changed before we could get them all hauled there. Thorp logging called us about using the chips at a chicken farm to compost deceased chickens. We agreed to let them have the remaining chips and they reground all chips to a smaller size and trucked them to Rembrandt, IA at no expense to Marshall County. This all happened this week and I have attached the IDNR Debris Management sheet asking your permission and to inform you where our chips were used. Please review the attached form and let me know if you have any questions concerning our situation. 5/2/2022 - My email response: No problem. I'm glad they could serve a useful purpose. BILL GROSS
7/14/2021 my response: Your request to dispose of tree debris (wood chips) from the 2020 derecho storm in Marshall County is hereby approved. The chips will be hauled to the Marshall County Sanitary Landfill this fall for beneficial use. BILL GROSS
7/14/2021 7/13/21 email from Mark Hentges (assistant engineer): I have attached a Debris Management Form for Marshall County. Originally we were going to have material other than vegetative debris but insurance covered it and it is not part of this form. This will just involve chips. Marshall County originally had four brush piles that we hauled to after the derecho. The state chipped all 4 piles and hauled away 2 of the piles but could not remove the other 2 piles because of trucking problems. One of the piles is on Sand RD just West of Prairie Ave and the other pile is located SW of Green Mountain on a section of vacated road. The landfill can not use the chips at this time but will take them this fall. We do not have tarps on our trucks so we may hire Top Notch Tree Service to haul the chips to the landfill. We are too close to houses and powerlines to burn them. BILL GROSS
