7/12/2021 Slate Siding Larry Haase <lhaase@kossuthcounty.iowa.gov> Thu, Jul 8, 2021 at 12:06 PM To: "Kragenbring, Grady" <grady.kragenbring@dnr.iowa.gov> Good Afternoon Grady, I was wondering if the homeowner could bring in slate siding here at the transfer station or does it have to go direct haul to Lake Mills? It seems like last time I checked it was kind of a gray area. Thank you for your time! Larry Haase Kossuth Waste Management 515-924-3739 Kragenbring, Grady <grady.kragenbring@dnr.iowa.gov> Mon, Jul 12, 2021 at 10:05 AM To: Larry Haase <lhaase@kossuthcounty.iowa.gov> Hi Larry, Sorry for the delay in response. I spoke with David Miller about this and he said that the reason it is kind of a gray area is because the slate siding likely contains asbestos and the landfill has certain requirements for documentation of asbestos containing materials in the landfill. Landfills have to take GPS coordinates of where known asbestos containing materials are in the landfill. That being the case, either the homeowner can direct haul it to the landfill and give them notice of the contents so the landfill can document where in the landfill they are deposited, or the homeowner can bring it to the transfer station and then you would have to notify the landfill that it would be coming in and which load it was in. It might be easier to have the homeowner direct haul to the landfill just for the sake of simplicity. Please let me or David Miller know if you have any other questions.
