5/25/2021 Called with questions on decommissioning the lagoon. 1. Can we remove all liquids and sludge and then leave liner in lagoon. - I verified with Kelli- YES. 2. Can we test side walls that are exposed by drilling through liner and testing soils? To see if there is any contamination and if so where and how bad. Then patch holes where test are taking. - I verified with Paul, he advised NO. 3. Would like to turn this lagoon into a fresh water pond and lagoon is decommissioned and free of manure. There’s a lot of run off from the hills there that is going around lagoon currently and cutting ditches. Also a big spring in the northwest corner that could be fed into pond. A overflow pipe would need to be added to south end . 4. We would like to get cost share or equip money for helping with closure of this lagoon through Harrison County NRCS, or state level! Maybe a grant available?? 5. As for the barns we would decommission them as well. 6. By turning the lagoon into fresh water pond the liner is needed because of the soil type there in the los hills would probably not hold water like a clay bottom would. Thus we would like to save liner when cleaning lagoon. And repairing if tore. There are companies that have the ability to clean and save the liner. 7. Been talking with a company that can compose the sludge out of the bottom of lagoon and bring it up to the top of the hill where it’s flat and long to composite to dry material that can be applied to the land.
