5/20/2021 subsequent email from Mike 5/20/21: Thank you for returning my request for a phone call. As discussed yesterday, we were looking at a distillation scrubber as a potential source of waterlogging our ethanol plant operations and reducing production capabilities. We had proposed shutting off the water flow for a period of 30-45 minutes to that particular scrubber to see if water was entering our reflux system and diluting final product alcohol. After our telephone discussion, operations did some finished product testing and discovered trace amounts of Trasar in it, which is a cooling tower chemical used here on site. We believe we have found some damaged tubes in a shell and tube heat exchanger and will be shutting down tomorrow to hydrotest and plug these tubes. As a result of this discovery, I want to inform you that we did not shut off the water at any time to this particular scrubber. BILL GROSS
5/19/2021 Mike called to request permission to briefly shut down the water flow through the ethanol scrubber (30-45 min.) in attempt to clean out the scrubber tubes. I told him yes, but he needed to calculate the additional emissions as a result. He wanted to know if he would need to call this an ecursion in the semi-annual report. Since it is part of a maintenance process (and if the added emission are low) I told him I would not require that. He said they are operating the plant at about half capacity. He siad he would email me the plan before, and the final report after. BILL GROSS
