However, these would still apply as prudent measures to consider for the protection of West Lake as source water for the water treatment plant that produces drinking water for the community. Vulnerable systems have greater monitoring frequencies than a groundwater system would, for example. Refer to the site survey that was done for the proposed reservoir. That may help. The City, as owners of West Lake, may also have some ordinance that specifies protection or allowed land uses. The Iowa DNR would not give permission, per se, for construction. The City’s current setback from a rear property line is 30ft, which is how I got to that figure.
