10/16/2020 Jody submitted a disaster debris management plan requesting approval to chip and/or burn dried tree debris at the Newton Landfill. (Newton SLF permit No. 50-SDP-01-75P, Special Provision No. 7, does allow burning of tree and clean wood waste.) my email response: Your plan to chip and/or burn tree debris from the recent derecho storm in Newton is hereby approved. Special provision 7 of the landfill permit allows this activity. It must be done at the site designated in approved landfill plans. You are advised to only burn smaller piles of dried tree debris to inhibit smoldering and overnight burning (try to avoid burning large logs, especially if they're still green), to burn in a manner that does not lead to complaints about nuisance conditions, and to follow state fire marshal guidance and orders.
