9/10/2020 Rec'd this email from Mr. Stoaks: After receiving your reports on both of our feedlots we have made many plans to control the issues which you have stated. Here is a list of the things we plan to do or have already completed: At the north lot: - a control structure to control manure runoff from pens 10 and 11 was built with a water control valve with aeration pipe on the back side to spread the released water out. The area below this should be seeded by October 1st providing we have enough moisture to do so. -another fresh water pond was constructed below the second pond. This pond will be used for a water source to the feedlot and will catch all the overflow from the 2nd pond. This should eliminate any contaminates ever reaching the stream from the feed source. This structure is complete. -aeration tubes will be added to the main SSB at the bottom of the horseshoe and they will be bedded with 3 inch cleaned rock. NRCS also recommended I add at least one more rock berm on down the draw to spread the water out again to prevent channelling. I will also reshape and reseed the draw. I plan to do this after we harvest the corn. This should be completed by October 15th. I plan to seed the draw with annual rye for winter cover, then seed reeds canary grass in the spring. This was also recommended by NRCS. -a recommendation from Shaun Shouse was to create a larger pool in the SSB in the horseshoe. I plan to do this, however it may not get completed until December 15th, as I need to remove manure from the area above the SSB in order to have room to complete this project. At the south lot: - a control structure was built to control manure runoff from pens 17 and 18 0n the northeast side of the feedlot. This structure has a water level control valve with aeration pipe spreaders on the back side, bedded with 3 inch cleaned rock. The area below the structure has been regraded and will be reseeded by October 1st providing adequate moisture is available. -the SSB to the northwest has been cleaned out and a water level control valve has been added. aeration pipes bedded with 3 inch cleaned rock were installed, and the area below the structure has been regraded. It also will be reseeded by October 1st providing adequate moisture. I also plan to start keeping records of my stockpiled manure and application rates. I will begin doing this with this falls manure application. ALISON MANZ
