6/16/2020 Gary and I have had discussions on the following dates: 6/8/20 x 3 calls 6/11/20 x 2 calls 6/12/20 6/15/20 6/16/20 The discussions were in regards to the site operations resulting in complaints the weekend of June 6/7, involving fires, smoke and odor. Onsite staff worked to put the fires out over the weekend by digging them out with heavy equipment. The fires appear to have started again in the old compost pile that hadn't been turned in a really long time. Then extended rains from the Tropical Storm Cristobal dropped 5-6" of rain in the Eddyville area resulting in leachate issues from the cured compost that has been pushed off the compost pad. Brian Lee noticed this while investigating the fire/odor complaints. Other conversations Gary and I have had regarded updated on what they're doing to get back into compliance regarding incoming material reductions, hauling cured finished compost offsite. Doug Maccrea indicated in an email that they've removed 9,985 tons of material between April 1 and June 1 and reduced weekly incoming material by an average of 150 tons per week. Doug also mentioned they've been diverting food waste to a digester in Muscatine at the rate of 3.5 tons per week. Gary also mentioned getting additional equipment onsite. Doug also emailed pictures of the site before the early June rains that showed progress in operations, working toward getting traditional windrows built. KURT LEVETZOW
