3/28/2019 On Thursday, March 28, 2019 I talked to Sherwin Plate about draining water away from the driveway and feed bins. Sherwin said water pools on the driveway and around the feed bins and he wanted to know if he could put in a tile intake that would be connected to a terrace tile. He asked if there was a distance from the building for a tile intake in the rules. I told Sherwin there is no rule about draining water from near the building using a tile intake but he should be concerned about protecting the intake when they are pumping/land/applying manure. In addition connecting to a terrace tile meant if manure got into the tile intake it would come out the downhill side of the terrace and might quickly run to surface water (creek). I recommended putting something around or over the intake to prevent liquid manure from entering the intake anytime they pump manure. This would give him some time to react to and contain a spill. He said he could put a 55 gallon plastic drum over the intake with a couple of cinder blocks on top to hold it down. I also recommended putting a couple of sand bags or tubes of sand like they sell to put in the bed of a pick-up truck during the winter around the drum to create a berm. BILL GIBBONS
